Dev Log #1 - R.E.M.I.
Welcome to the very first Development Log for R.E.M.I.
As we continue development on the project, we’ve taken on board the feedback we received from our earlier vertical slice and have been working to refine and improve the game based on those insights.
Big Changes
Environment Shape Redesign
One of the most significant changes has been altering the shape of the station from a hexagonal design to a more traditional rectangular layout. During pre-production, we discovered that the hexagonal structure was adding unnecessary complexity to otherwise simple gameplay functions—particularly with systems like doors, which required extra consideration for rotation and alignment. Switching to a rectangular layout has streamlined level design and implementation, making the environment more predictable and easier to build upon.
Removal of Narrative Plot
As the game has evolved, we’ve decided to remove the narrative storyline that originally drove player progression. Instead, we’ve introduced a time-based mechanic. Players will now have a limited amount of time each day to complete their daily tasks. This shift allows us to tighten the project’s scope and focus our development efforts on gameplay systems, rather than stretching resources toward writing, implementing, and managing a story.
Next Steps
This phase of development has taught us a lot about our team’s production capacity and workflow. Moving forward, we’ll continue to reassess the project scope and make further adjustments where necessary to ensure that we deliver a polished and engaging experience.
Thanks for following along with the journey of R.E.M.I. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue developing the game!
